Saved my life!!!

By

from Encinitas, CA, USA

About Me

Comments:

I had a bad crash 4/19/17 and slid on wet sand around a sharp corner. I took out my right side with 3 broken bones in my hip/pelvic, 2 broken ribs and rotator cuff injury. I hit my head and had 0 damage and no concussion. After 4 days in the hospital and 3 months of physical therapy, I am almost 100%. I got back on my bike fairly quickly and off on a 1 month bike trip across Europe! Thank you Smith and for my 30% crash rebate to buy a new helmet, now with MIPS... I love the crazy, fun new colorful Matte BSF helmet. I stand out and get tons of compliments! RIDE ON!!!

Best fit and saved my head!

By

About Me

Comments:

I have worn Smith helmets for a while for skiing and cycling - absolutely best fit for my head - and bought the Overtake last year when upgrading to MIPS. Took a hard crash last week, and despite some dents in the helmet and 3 broken ribs, my head was totally intact. MIPS shifted exactly as designed, too. Thank you, Smith!

Great Helmet

New but thus far the quality seems solid, helmet has very comfortable fit. Ventilation is better than expected considering the Koroyd cells that keep bugs out while ironically looking like honeycomb.

MIPS for life

By

About Me

Comments:

The MIPS Overtake is a very comfortable helmet that has good design elements cooked into it. I've used many helmets over the years and survived a crash that resulted in a concussion (not with the Overtake). The MIPS design was a must on my helmet, but some of those designs don't fit well. Not so with the Overtake. It fit snug and did not have 'hotspot' strangle areas as in others. The kicker in the design is easily fitting your sunglasses in the Smith sunglasses garage. Great fit, function, and looks.

Internal straps broke quicly

About Me

Comments:

Mine isn't an MIPS, but both the back plastic straps broke with 3 months. I've been riding around with zip-ties holding my helmet together for a couple months now and can't find anywhere to buy replacement parts (which I shouldn't have to buy anyway).

Love this helmet! Just be aware if you have long hair...

About Me

Comments:

I have the Forefront and love it. The "glasses holder" feature is enough for me to buy Smith helmets. I hate climbing with glasses on and therefore that feature is clutch. The Forefront I have is non-MIPS and I love it. I figured I would upgrade to MIPS for the Overtake, because...well...cars. The safety is great, but know that long hair can snag in some of the attachment point of the MIPS piece. In fact, it snags almost every time, regardless of how I adjust the pads. In that sense, I wish I would have bought the non-MIPS model. Otherwise...I LOVE IT!

Great helmet with a few flaws

By

About Me

Comments:

I have owned his helmet for nearly two months and I can easily say it is much better than my old one. My favorite part about the Overtake is that right out of the box it's lightweight and very comfortable. The helmet is warmer then other helmets due to the lack of airflow but that is a trade that is fine with me for the protection I am getting. My disappointed with the Overtake is my new white helmet is beginning to yellow. I first noticed it on the edges but now it seems to be occurring in other sections as well. Another minor dispointment is I can not store my sunglasses on the helmet. Overall, even with the flaws, it is a great helmet.

excellent helmet - get one

About Me

Comments:

There is nothing more important than my brain, and I trust the Smith Overtake helmet to protect it if I should ever happen to crash again. I've crashed on my own, been run into and knocked down. Had a concussion and didn't enjoy it at all. Hoping that I never have to "test" the Overtake helmet, but glad to know it's there just in case.

Great Helmet but could be better

By

from Pittsburgh, PA, USA

About Me

Comments:

This is a great helmet. Very lightweight and cool. However I wish it had two features, 1st: It would be nice to have a visor to shade the eyes. Second and more importantly for me, there needs to be a way to mount head and tail lights to the helmet. Lights mounted on the rider's head are more noticeable and allow the rider to have light wherever they look. As a city rider, this is a needed feature.
